German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the Russian regime’s actions against Ukraine are reminiscent of Nazi methods.
He said this during the party congress of the Christian Democratic Union in Stuttgart.
According to Merz, Russian aggression is accompanied by “unbearable Nazi propaganda” against Ukrainians—a people who have historically suffered under the tyranny of two totalitarian regimes. He emphasized that Germany categorically rejects such a policy and will continue to support Ukraine unconditionally.
The Chancellor also warned against attempts to appease the aggressor. He believed that concessions cannot ensure lasting peace, and historical experience shows that a policy of fertilization only encourages further acts of aggression.
Merz called on European countries to abandon “naive pacifism” and learn to speak with Russia “in the language of strength” in order to prevent larger-scale conflicts in the future.
