The Government has decided to terminate the powers of the Supervisory Board of Energoatom

On Tuesday, November 11, the Ukrainian Government decided to cut short the term of the Supervisory Board of NNEGC Energoatom, effectively removing its current leadership.

This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko.

“In 2023, we began corporate reform and selected the members of this Supervisory Board through a competitive process. The Board has full authority, from appointing management to overseeing the company’s operations. Importantly, the Government did not interfere in its activities,” the report states.

The official emphasized that the Supervisory Board of Energoatom must take responsibility for the situation that has developed in the company.

She added that the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture must submit the new composition of the Supervisory Board to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval within a week, in consultation with international partners.

The new team will face several key tasks, including swiftly re-establishing management, conducting a full audit of the company, and assisting law enforcement agencies in investigating potential corruption.

“I have instructed the State Audit Service to carry out an urgent audit of Energoatom, including all procurement activities. We expect the results as soon as possible and will forward the materials to law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies,” Svyrydenko added.

As a reminder, NABU and SAPO are conducting a large-scale operation “Midas” to expose corruption in the energy sector. According to the investigation, the activities of a high-level criminal organization were established, which controlled financial flows and personnel decisions in state energy structures.

It is worth noting that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported suspicions against 7 individuals involved in a large-scale corruption scheme at JSC NNEGC Energoatom.
