The government is increasing support for medicine, education, and the social sphere due to the energy crisis

The government continues to work to ensure the stability of the state and support people during the energy emergency.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko following a meeting with relevant ministers.

According to her, medical institutions are under priority control. No hospital will stop working due to power outages. All medical institutions have been provided with alternative power sources, primarily generators. The state is additionally directing reserves of generators and fuel to where the need is greatest. Control over the availability of medicines and prices for medicines has also been tightened.

In the field of education, the safety of children remains a priority. Some institutions are working remotely or have temporarily suspended classes. In Kyiv, all schools, except kindergartens, are on vacation until February 1. Svyrydenko instructed to ensure that teachers’ salaries are unconditionally preserved for the period of forced vacation. For children whose parents cannot leave them at home, 284 special classes with backup power have been opened in the capital.

The Government is paying special attention to supporting people with limited mobility and single pensioners . The Ministry of Social Policy and regional military administrations have been instructed to check the needs of those who suffer most from the cold in their homes, with a focus on Kyiv.

Social institutions are under separate control. The government is conducting additional inspections of centers for internally displaced persons, family-type orphanages, and permanent residence facilities. They have a stable electricity supply, fuel for generators, and hot meals.

To provide people with hot meals, the State Emergency Service is deploying mobile kitchens. 41 such kitchens are already operating in Kyiv, with another 40 in reserve. The government is also preparing a decision on additional funding from the state budget reserve fund to support vulnerable categories of the population.

As previously reported, Ukraine’s energy system is in difficult conditions due to intense Russian shelling and the most severe winter in 20 years. In connection with the emergency situation in the energy sector, the Government has identified a set of measures to overcome its consequences.

As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allowed regions to introduce flexible curfew rules while the energy emergency continues.
