The government is introducing state payments in the event of journalists being killed or injured while working.

The Ukrainian government is beginning to pay a one-time state benefit in cases of death or injury to journalists while performing their professional duties.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this.

According to her, the Cabinet of Ministers made the corresponding decision on December 12. Payments will be made through the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting.

“We are making the first payment to the father of journalist Viktoria Roshchina, who died in Russian captivity. This program is included in the 2026 state budget. For the Ukrainian state, this is a matter of justice for those who selflessly sought the truth, documented Russian crimes, and lost their lives because of it,” Sviridenko emphasized.

She also noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has killed 21 journalists in the line of duty – both Ukrainian and foreign.

“These are crimes for which Russia must answer,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
