The highest number of victims in more than four years of war: the UN has published alarming data

At least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 others injured in Ukraine in July 2026. According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), this is the highest number of civilian casualties in a single month since March 2022.
This was reported by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine in its new report.
The mission noted that compared to June, the number of victims increased by 30%, and compared to July 2025, by 70%.
The situation with child casualties has become particularly alarming. In July, 17 children were killed and another 166 were injured. The UN noted that this is the highest figure among children since April 2022.
“Every month this year, the number of civilians killed and injured has increased. This trend intensified sharply in July. The number of civilian casualties in July was the highest we have documented in a single month since March 2022,” said HRMMU Head Danielle Belle.
According to the mission, 12,477 civilian casualties were confirmed in Ukraine in the first seven months of 2026: 1,839 people were killed and another 10,638 were injured. This is 44% more than in the same period last year, and more than double the figures for 2024.
One of the worst-hit cities in July was Kyiv. At least 54 people were killed and 202 injured in the capital. The UN attributed this to a significant increase in Russia’s use of ballistic and cruise missiles. In total, Russia fired at least 429 missiles during the month, more than double the number in June.
The largest number of civilian casualties were caused by missile strikes and long-range drone attacks, accounting for 38% of all casualties, with 183 killed and 967 injured. Another 105 people were killed and 753 injured by guided bomb strikes, while attacks by FPV drones and other short-range drones killed 111 civilians and injured another 710.
The HRMMU emphasized that the actual number of victims could be even higher, as some of the information is still being verified.
Throughout the full-scale war, the UN Monitoring Mission confirmed the deaths of at least 16,874 civilians, including 820 children. Another 51,273 people were injured, including 3,126 children.
