On the morning of June 4, the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant came under heavy shelling, which could threaten the power supply to the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency reported this.

Agency specialists working at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) recorded smoke from a nearby thermal power plant and heard sounds of combat. According to available information, Zaporizhzhia TPP personnel were in shelters during the attack.

The IAEA noted that the situation is of particular concern due to the condition of the single power line that provides external power to the nuclear power plant.

In recent weeks, this line has repeatedly failed, forcing the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to switch to emergency diesel generators. These provide critical power for cooling the six reactors and maintaining nuclear safety.

While the unified power transmission line remains operational, risks to the station’s stable power supply remain.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi called for an immediate end to attacks near the facility to prevent a prolonged loss of external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Earlier, the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine refuted Russian claims of an alleged Ukrainian military strike on Unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant . The agency stated that the information disseminated by occupation forces was yet another Russian information provocation.
