Russia is not taking the talks in Abu Dhabi seriously, as its delegation consists mainly of military personnel who have no mandate to make any decisions.
This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, reports “European Truth”.
She believes that the fact that the Russian Federation sent military personnel to the meeting shows its unwillingness to achieve peace in Ukraine.
“If we look at these negotiations, Russia is represented by military personnel who have no mandate to negotiate peace as such. So it is clear that the Russians are not serious about this,” the European official noted.
According to her, Russia, on the contrary, is shelling Ukrainian cities, trying to freeze society in order to “force it to surrender.”
“Therefore, we are also discussing the energy support that we can provide them, because the winter is very difficult, and Ukrainians are really suffering. A humanitarian catastrophe is looming,” the diplomat said, recalling that the Russians are “only pretending” to be negotiating.
As is known, trilateral negotiations involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place for two days in Abu Dhabi, ended on January 24. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process.
According to sources, during the negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi, the parties achieved greater progress on the military block of issues. At the same time, no agreements were reached on the territorial aspects .
It is worth noting that the next round of trilateral talks involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia will take place in Abu Dhabi on February 1. The parties will continue discussions after previous meetings, which the American side called productive.
