Analysts reported that Russian industry produces up to 400 new tanks each year, not counting the equipment being removed from storage bases. According to their estimates, the aggressor is actively rebuilding its tank units.
This is reported by Janes .
Russian industry, according to analysts, produces significant volumes of armored vehicles. Back in October, experts from the Janes analytical agency stated that the Uralvagonzavod enterprise produces up to two hundred and fifty T-90M Proryv tanks annually. The Omsktransmash plant, according to their estimates, produces up to one hundred and fifty T-80BVM tanks.
Analysts clarified that these data do not take into account older modifications. Such tanks are not produced from scratch, but are regularly removed from conservation and returned to service.
According to experts, between 2022 and 2025, the number of T-72-B3 tanks in the Russian army decreased from 1,200 to 1,100. On the other hand, the number of T-90Ms increased from 50 to 200, and the number of T-80BVMs from 100 to 280.
Janes noted that all of these tank types use a number of common components.
“All of the above-mentioned types of tanks have a number of common parts, which ensures unified production, which in turn contributes to increasing production efficiency. But the parallel production of several types of MBTs may rather reflect the inherited Soviet mentality, where the state is primarily focused on scale, rather than optimization and efficient use of resources,” the analysts emphasized.
Analysts paid special attention to the number of Russian units armed with the new modifications. At the beginning of 2022, only two units had T-90M Proryv tanks. Now, according to analysts’ estimates, there are about 20 of them.
Before the war, 4 units were armed with T-80BVM tanks, and now there are 23. The number of units using the T-72B3 has increased from 35 to 53.
The Ukrainian military-analytical portal Defense Express, having studied this data, notes that Russia does not plan to abandon the massive use of tanks, even despite their vulnerability to modern attack drones.
By the way, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Russia is mass-producing guided modular glide bombs, which, thanks to a turbojet engine, can fly up to two hundred kilometers . This will result in the possibility of striking from a safer distance for Russian aviation and expanding the radius of the threat across the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that Russia has increased the production of Geran-2 strike drones (an analogue of the Iranian Shahed-136) and is now capable of producing about 2,700 drones per month. At the same time, it became known that Russia plans to attract 12,000 North Korean workers to work at its military enterprises in Tatarstan. According to Ukrainian intelligence, this is part of large-scale preparations for the production of long-range drones, with which the Russian Federation strikes at the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.
