Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite significant losses to his troops and economic problems within the country, remains determined to continue the war against Ukraine and maintain control over the captured territories.
This is reported by NBC News.
According to US intelligence presented to members of the US Congress, the Kremlin is showing no signs of willingness to compromise in peace talks, although former US President Donald Trump is trying to mediate.
Sources familiar with the intelligence assessments note that Putin’s position is now even tougher than at the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Russian leader seeks not only to consolidate control over Ukrainian territories, but also to expand his country’s influence in order to justify the huge human and financial losses.
A senior US official told NBC that the White House does not comment on internal intelligence assessments, but stressed Trump’s public efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict. According to the US official, “a lasting peace is only possible if Russia is willing to negotiate in good faith.”
Recall that in October, Putin and Trump had a telephone conversation, after which a new summit was planned in Budapest. However, the meeting was canceled because Russia did not agree to change its maximalist demands regarding Ukraine. Trump confirmed that he decided to cancel the meeting so as not to waste time.
It should be noted that the day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that dictator Vladimir Putin was allegedly ready to agree to the concept proposed by the United States of America for resolving the war against Ukraine.
As reported, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has no intention of ending the war in Ukraine, as he believes he is capable of winning.
