The Kremlin is raising the possibility that the party of current Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could lose the parliamentary elections and is developing an information strategy to address this scenario.

This was reported by Meduza , citing sources close to the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin .

According to the publication, Moscow had previously hoped that the Fidesz party would win thanks to the work of political strategists. However, in the run-up to the elections scheduled for April 12, these expectations have been lowered.

“There was initially hope that Orbán and his operatives would be able to turn the tide and win the elections. Now the Kremlin is assuming that even that won’t happen,” the media quoted its source as saying.

If Fidesz loses, Kremlin-controlled media could portray it as a “color revolution” allegedly orchestrated by the European Union.

At the same time, according to sources, responsibility for a possible defeat is planned to be placed on Orban himself.

“Even with our support, they couldn’t do anything” – these messages are already being discussed by the Russian authorities.

The Financial Times and The Washington Post previously reported on Russia’s attempts to assist Fidesz in its election campaign.

In particular, the discussion focused on promoting Orbán’s image as a “strong leader” and information attacks against his main opponent, Péter Magyar , and his Tisza party.

The Kremlin denies direct control of the campaign, but admits to some assistance on social media.

US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have publicly spoken out in support of Orban.

However, according to the latest polls, Fidesz is behind Tisza’s party in terms of support, although a significant portion of voters have not yet made up their minds.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the opinion that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán could suffer defeat in the upcoming parliamentary elections , after which Kyiv and Budapest could restore full relations.

As a reminder, Russian foreign intelligence officers proposed staging an assassination attempt on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of the elections. This scenario is intended to influence the campaign and mobilize voter support.
