The Kremlin said that talks between representatives of Russia and the United States had not yielded a breakthrough on the issue of the war against Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow said that it would continue hostilities and await new American proposals for a settlement.

This is reported by Russian media.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the results of the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which took place on the sidelines of international events in the Philippines. According to him, maintaining contacts between Moscow and Washington is positive, but there is no reason to talk about a breakthrough or acceleration of the negotiation process at the moment.

Peskov noted that the Kremlin sees no reason for excessive optimism about a possible resolution of the war in the near future. According to him, diplomatic contacts between Russia and the United States are ongoing, but this does not indicate a change in the positions of the parties.

He also stated that Russia would continue the war against Ukraine, while waiting for new proposals from the United States.

“We will wait. We are continuing our special military operation, continuing to achieve the military goals we have set. This is not the best path, but in the absence of peaceful prospects, we will go to the end, to complete victory. And at the same time, we will wait for new proposals,” Peskov said.

According to a Kremlin spokesman, US President Donald Trump and his negotiators are “sincerely” seeking to find a settlement that will be acceptable to all parties.

“The Americans sincerely, President Trump sincerely, his negotiators sincerely seek to formulate options that would be acceptable to everyone,” Peskov said.

At the same time, he claims that one of the settlement options previously proposed by the American side was accepted by Russia, but did not receive support from Ukraine.

Commenting on the prospects for a personal meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States, Peskov stated that the dialogue with Washington continues, but there are currently no specific agreements regarding negotiations at the highest level.

By the way, during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared Moscow’s readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the war and called for a halt to arms supplies to Ukraine .

Earlier it was reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that talks between the American and Russian delegations in Alaska ended without reaching any agreements. The Kremlin responded by noting that such statements raise questions in Moscow. The day before, Rubio said that Washington remains ready to help find ways to end the war in Ukraine.
