The Kremlin revealed the purpose of the CIA director’s visit.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow without prior announcement on August 25.

The Kremlin stated that the purpose of the trip was to “establish contacts between security services.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to elaborate, but noted that a meeting between Ratcliffe and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was not planned during the visit.

At the same time, earlier that day, Peskov stated that the Kremlin had no information about the arrival of American military aircraft at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport and did not expect meetings with representatives of the US administration this week.

According to Flightradar24, an American military transport aircraft, a C-17A Globemaster III, has arrived in Moscow. It departed Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday evening and, after a roughly 24-hour stay in Riga, departed for the Russian capital on August 25.

The plane arrived in Moscow after 9:00 AM local time and departed for Riga at around 5:30 PM. It therefore spent approximately eight and a half hours in the Russian capital.

The C-17A is the primary heavy transport aircraft of the United States Air Force and is used, among other things, to transport specialized equipment, materiel, and personnel during important diplomatic missions.

As a reminder, CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow on Tuesday , August 25, for talks with Russian officials. Before his trip, the United States warned Ukraine about the delegation’s visit and asked it to temporarily hold off on strikes.
