In Moscow, Russian presidential aide for foreign policy Yuri Ushakov sharply rejected a proposal by French diplomats for Europe to participate in peace talks over the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin said that European countries are not contributing to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
This is reported by the Financial Times .
According to journalists, French presidential advisors Bertrand Buchwalter and Emmanuel Bonn arrived in Moscow in February. During the meetings, the French side insisted that Russia should agree to the participation of Ukraine’s European partners in the negotiation process to end the war.
According to one senior European diplomat, the reaction of Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov to such a proposal was harsh.
“Sorry, we don’t really have any, go f**k it,” Yuriy Ushakov said, according to a senior European diplomat who quoted the Russian official.
In turn, Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that, in his opinion, European countries are not contributing to a peaceful resolution of the war.
“When the French representative arrived, he did not bring any positive signals. So he did not hear anything positive. Unfortunately, the Europeans are spending all their efforts on convincing the Ukrainians to continue the war. We are convinced that the Europeans are mistaken in terms of their own future,” Dmitry Peskov said.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the next trilateral meeting of the negotiating teams of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia could take place in the middle of next week , but there is currently no clear position.
As reported, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War said that Russia could use the conflict in the Middle East to discredit peace talks on Ukraine . In their opinion, the Kremlin may be trying to shift responsibility for the possible failure of the talks to the United States.
