The Kyiv City State Administration commented on a possible fare reduction to 8 hryvnias.

The Kyiv City State Administration stated that there is currently no information about a possible reduction in the cost of public transport in the capital to 8 hryvnias.

The Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Transport Infrastructure reported this in response to a request from hromadske.

“Regarding the possible reduction of the single fare to 8 hryvnia, we note that, as of the time of the response, the Department has no information regarding changes to the established tariff,” the response states.

As a reminder, starting July 15, the cost of a single ride on the Kyiv metro, buses, trams, and trolleybuses is 30 hryvnias. Schoolchildren, pensioners, military personnel, and other privileged categories retain their right to free or discounted travel.

The increase in tariffs at the Kyiv City State Administration was explained by the increase in costs for electricity, fuel, wages, and the maintenance of transport infrastructure.

Protests erupted in the capital following the fare hike. The latest protest took place on August 11 outside the Kyiv City State Administration building. Participants are demanding a discussion and a return to the 8 hryvnia fare.

Therefore, there is no official decision yet to return the tariff to 8 hryvnia.
