In Kyiv, schools may temporarily switch to remote learning due to prolonged power outages, water shortages, or the aftermath of Russian attacks. It all depends on whether a particular institution can provide normal and safe conditions for children.
This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
If the school loses power, generators, charging stations, and other backup power sources will be used to conduct lessons. If the lighting is insufficient, teachers will be able to conduct classes orally, without written assignments.
However, if the school is unable to hold classes normally, children will be temporarily transferred to distance learning.
The same will apply in the event of a water shortage. If the school cannot provide adequate sanitation, students will study at home until the water supply is restored.
If the situation permits, children will continue to go to school as usual. During air raids, students and teachers will go down to shelters.
The capital will also continue the practice of so-called “educational migration.” This means that, if necessary, children will be able to transfer to other schools or kindergartens where there are free spaces and appropriate conditions.
If the school is unable to operate due to shelling, power or water outages, the administration may transfer all students to distance learning at once. Parents will be notified of such changes in advance through the usual communication channels.
At the same time, both children who are in Kyiv and those who have temporarily left the city will be able to study remotely. If necessary, schoolchildren will also be able to connect to online lessons from equipped places in school shelters.
If a teacher cannot safely get to school, he or she will conduct lessons online from another location, in agreement with the administration.
Separately, the Kyiv City State Administration explained what to do during an air raid alert during distance learning. If the siren sounds in the middle of a lesson, classes will be suspended so that the teacher and children can take shelter. After that, the lesson can continue or start the next one on the schedule.
Parents are asked to follow school announcements and check the electronic diary. There you will be able to find out about changes in the schedule and format of classes. In addition, at the beginning of each lesson, teachers will check the presence of children. If a student does not join the lesson, parents will receive a notification.
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that there will be no single solution for all schools in the capital. Each institution will operate depending on the situation with electricity, water, heating, and security.
