The explosion heard by residents of Dnipro on Saturday, June 28, was the result of the work of Ukrainian air defense. The defenders shot down a modern Russian bomb-rocket of the “Thunder-1” type.
This was announced by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA, Serhiy Lysak.
“I thank the defenders of the sky for shooting down the latest Grom-1 missile bomb,” his message reads.
The Air Force noted that at around 11:30 a.m., an aerial target launched from a Russian tactical aircraft was detected from the airspace of the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.
“The target flew over 100 km and was shot down by air defense outside the city of Dnipro,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.
It is worth noting that the larger the warhead of a KAB, the shorter its range. Therefore, it is likely that a lighter version of the bomb was directed towards the city.
As is known, on Tuesday, June 24, Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine, directing ballistic missiles at the Dnieper River. 15 people are known to have died and over 200 were injured.
