The mayor of the city of Ukrainka, Kyiv region, Oleksandr Turenko, was charged with land grabbing and embezzlement of budget funds worth over UAH 75 million.

This was reported by the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

It is known that the suspect organized a scheme to seize water fund lands through front persons.

Initially, the land plots became private property, and later some of them were legalized through purchase and sale through third parties.

The department did not disclose the name of the official, but the media reported that it was Oleksandr Turenko.

According to the investigation, in 2025, Turenko re-acquired water and forest fund lands by entering false information into documentation and state registers.

“As a result of the artificial change in coordinates, the land plots were actually moved to more valuable territories – to the forest massif and the coastal protective strip of the Stugna River,” the department notes.

Law enforcement officers also established the embezzlement of budget funds that were allocated for the implementation of a contract for landscaping the community territory worth almost UAH 8.5 million.

Over 1,500 hours of work by special equipment were unjustifiably included in the acts of work performed, the use of which was not provided for by either the procurement terms or regulatory documents.

However, the official signed the documents anyway, and the contractor was paid over UAH 1.3 million.

The total value of land assets and budget funds that are the subject of criminal proceedings exceeds UAH 75 million.

The prosecutor’s office appealed to the court to impose a preventive measure on Oleksandr Turenko in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of UAH 75 million, as well as to remove him from office.

In particular, during the investigative actions, law enforcement officers recorded materials in the official’s office that may indicate the preparation of schemes for illegal privatization of land and receiving bribes during the distribution of budget funds. These facts will be given a separate legal assessment.

It was previously reported that in Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a man who introduced himself as a major general and promised to help a serviceman pass the military service exam , register his unfitness for service, and go abroad.
