The New York Times has published an investigation attempting to establish the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto , the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.

This is stated in the NYT material.

Journalists suggest that British businessman Adam Beck may be behind this pseudonym, but he denies this.

The investigation’s author, journalist John Carreyrou , analyzed Nakamoto’s writing style, ideology, and technical approaches. In particular, he noted the combination of British and American English in his texts, as well as his connection to the cypherpunk movement—a community that advocates the use of cryptography to protect privacy and counter government surveillance.

Carreyrou also compared Nakamoto’s vocabulary with the writings of 12 individuals previously suspected of creating Bitcoin. According to him, the most similarities were found in Beck’s writings.

An additional argument was that Adam Back is the author of the Hashcash system, the technology used by Bitcoin for mining.

At the same time, Beck provided emails purportedly received from Nakamoto before the publication of the Bitcoin white paper. In them, the cryptocurrency’s author asked to verify the correctness of the links to the Hashcash paper. This could indicate that they are different people. However, the journalist suggests that these emails could have been created by Beck himself as a cover.

Furthermore, the investigation notes that Beck’s online activity coincides with the period of Nakamoto’s disappearance after the publication of the document describing the principles of Bitcoin.

Despite these arguments, Beck again denied any involvement in the cryptocurrency’s creation. He argued that Nakamoto’s anonymity is a positive for Bitcoin , as it allows it to be perceived as an independent digital asset, not tied to a specific person.
