The Ministry of Defense revealed details of the “Contract 60+” program

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine explained the changes to the Regulations on Military Service introduced by the Presidential Decree.

Contract for volunteers aged 60+

During martial law, citizens over the age of 60 can sign a one-year contract for military service. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that this is an exclusively voluntary decision and only for persons who are deemed fit by a military medical commission.

Mobilization of men aged 60+ is not carried out.

To conclude a contract, volunteers must submit an application and a letter from the commander of the military unit to the territorial recruitment center at the place of residence or stay. If the candidate is applying for an officer position, the commander submits the letter only after approval by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Awarding of new ranks in a short period of time

Military personnel can receive the next rank faster than the standard terms if they serve in combat units or perform combat missions for at least three months. This rule also applies to military personnel who were injured or ill while performing combat missions and continued their service in other units.

During martial law, the terms of service for awarding ranks are reduced:

• after 1 year – for junior and senior sergeants and junior officers

• after 2 years – for senior non-commissioned officers and senior officers

For military units that are not part of the combat force, longer terms of service apply.

Guarantee of service in the chosen position

A serviceman who signs a contract will serve in his chosen position for at least six months.

Transfer to another position or to another unit is possible only at one’s own request or after the end of a six-month period.

The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the changes should streamline personnel processes and increase the motivation of servicemen during martial law.
