The Ministry of Education and Science has changed the rules for assessing schoolchildren: what awaits students

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has approved a new system for assessing student learning outcomes. It establishes uniform rules for general secondary education institutions and defines student grades as confidential information.

This is reported by Osvita.ua.

The new rules apply to all forms of obtaining complete general secondary education. The document defines the principles, types, forms and methods of assessment, as well as scales and procedures for determining learning outcomes.

The Ministry of Education and Science has defined a student’s assessment as confidential information. Access to it will be available to the student himself, his parents or other legal representatives, as well as the teachers conducting the assessment.

Learning outcomes will be communicated to students and their parents during individual meetings. Paper or electronic diaries, information and communication technologies, and certificates of achievement will also be used for this purpose.

The new rules also distinguish between assessment and evaluation. Assessment refers to the process of observing and determining learning outcomes, while evaluation is the result of that process.

The new system will be implemented in stages. Starting from the new school year, the rules will apply to students in grades 1-9.

In the 2027-2028 academic year, the system will cover students in grades 1-10, and from the 2028-2029 academic year, students in grades 1-12.

Thus, the Ministry of Education and Science will gradually introduce uniform assessment rules for all students who complete general secondary education.
