In Ukraine, different regions have different power outage schedules, and the reason for this is not a selective approach, but the physical capabilities of the power system.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

The department explained that the biggest problems arise in the central, eastern and southern regions due to destroyed or damaged generation. Russia is systematically attacking not only power plants, but also high-voltage lines and autotransformers that connect the regions with each other.

The main power generation capacity is currently concentrated in western Ukraine, where nuclear power plants operate and imports come in from Europe. These regions can produce more electricity than they consume, but it is often impossible to transfer it in full to Kyiv, Kharkiv, or the frontline regions.

Due to damage to main lines, electricity is effectively stuck in the regions where it is produced or imported. The capacity of networks, which were not designed for such loads, is insufficient.

The Ministry of Energy emphasized that the situation is complicated by daily shelling, overload accidents, and hostilities near energy infrastructure. Energy workers are restoring damaged facilities every day, but the physical limitations of the system remain.

The department emphasized: the difference in the duration of outages between regions is not someone’s decision, but a consequence of the real state of the power grids.

As previously reported, Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko stated that a reduction in the duration of outages is expected in Ukraine this weekend.

As a reminder, the government held a coordination meeting on stabilizing the energy system after the latest Russian strikes.
