Ukraine rejects the unsubstantiated accusations of the Russian Federation regarding its alleged involvement in the death of a person as a result of a drone strike near the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The department emphasized that no independent confirmation of the Russian version or evidence of Ukraine’s involvement has been presented, and the information disseminated by Russian occupation structures cannot be considered reliable.

“It is important to take into account the broader context of Russian accusations, namely Russia’s constant and purposeful escalation of the situation around the ZNPP and the city of Energodar, Russian attacks on the plant’s employees, its facilities, and the city’s civilian infrastructure, intimidation of the international community with the threat of a nuclear incident, and attempts to present Ukraine as a source of danger. At the same time, the Russian side is increasing political pressure on the IAEA Director General, trying to shift responsibility for the consequences of the Russian occupation onto Ukraine,” the report says.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the root cause of all threats surrounding the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains its illegal seizure, militarization, and use by the Russian Federation for military purposes. The IAEA Board of Governors and General Conference have repeatedly demanded that Russia withdraw all military and other unauthorized personnel from the station, cease illegal management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and return it to full control of the competent authorities of Ukraine.

The department emphasized that Moscow is deliberately ignoring these decisions, continuing to keep its troops, Rosatom representatives, and the occupation administration it created at the Ukrainian nuclear facility, and is not abandoning plans to integrate the station into the Unified Energy System of the Russian Federation.

In addition, Ukraine expects the IAEA Secretariat to adhere to the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and factual balance, and to avoid actions that could be perceived as legitimizing the Russian occupation administration at the ZNPP.

“Ukraine calls on the international community not to succumb to Russian information manipulation and to increase pressure on the aggressor state with the aim of implementing the decisions of the IAEA Board of Governors and the General Conference, demilitarizing and deoccupying the ZNPP and the city of Energodar, as well as returning the plant to the full control of its legitimate Ukrainian operator, JSC NNEGC Energoatom, as soon as possible,” the department emphasized.

The Foreign Ministry added that returning the station to full Ukrainian control is not a political wish, but an unalternative requirement of international law and a necessary prerequisite for ensuring nuclear safety in Europe.

It was previously reported that the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP experienced its tenth blackout since the beginning of 2026. Due to the loss of external power supply, the station temporarily switched to backup diesel generators, but power supply was later restored.
