The Ministry of Internal Affairs will change the procedure for passing exams for drivers

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is preparing changes to the rules for taking driving license exams and the procedure for issuing licenses. This involves updating the Instructions that regulate the administration of exams at the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The draft order “On Amendments to the Instructions on the Procedure for Taking Exams for Obtaining the Right to Drive Vehicles and Issuing Driver’s Licenses” has now been published for public discussion. After that, the document must be approved by a number of ministries, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Digital Affairs, as well as registered with the Ministry of Justice.

One of the key changes could be the ability to take the theory test in English. Previously, testing was conducted only in Ukrainian.

“After all procedures are completed, English language tests will become available in service centers,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in the materials.

The ministry explains that the changes are aimed at simplifying access to services for foreigners and stateless persons who live in Ukraine but do not always have sufficient command of the Ukrainian language to pass the exam.

The project also provides for strengthening the identification of candidates. Before the start of the exams, all participants will be photographed, and their data will be entered into the Unified State Register of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The department notes that this should reduce the risks of substitution of persons during exams and increase the transparency of the procedure for obtaining driver’s licenses.
