The Netherlands handed over to Ukraine a new mine-clearing ship “Genichesk”

The Ukrainian Navy has received another mine countermeasures ship from the Kingdom of the Netherlands within the framework of the Coalition of Maritime Capabilities. The transferred minesweeper “Genichesk” became the fifth mine countermeasures ship in the Ukrainian fleet.
This was reported by the Navy press service .
Within the framework of the Maritime Capabilities Coalition, Dutch partners transferred an Alkmaar-class minesweeper to the Ukrainian Navy.
During the official ceremony, the flag of the Ukrainian Naval Forces was raised on the ship. The event was attended by the Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Commander of the Royal Belgian Navy, as well as the commanders of the navies of Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia.
The ship was named “Genichesk” in honor of the raid minesweeper of the same name, who died while performing a combat mission, covering special forces soldiers.
“Genichesk” will strengthen our mine countermeasure capabilities – searching, detecting and neutralizing sea mines,” the commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.
After its transfer, Genichesk will strengthen the capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy in mine countermeasures, in particular in the search, detection and neutralization of sea mines.
“I assured that with the Ukrainian crew, it will continue to adequately perform its tasks and contribute to security in the Black Sea and, if necessary, beyond its borders,” the commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
Currently, the Ukrainian Navy has 5 mine countermeasure ships. Previously, the United Kingdom transferred to Ukraine the Sandown-class ships “Cherkasy” and “Chernihiv”, and Belgium and the Netherlands – the Alkmaar-class ships “Melitopol” and “Mariupol”.
