The SBU counterintelligence brigadier general with the call sign “Hunter” presented a new generation of Sea Baby surface unmanned platforms and announced the possibility of equipping them with missile weapons.
An Ukrinform correspondent reports on the event.
According to Hunter, the multifunctional design of the Sea Baby allows for a change in equipment: the platform can carry a machine gun mount, unmanned aerial vehicles or heavy equipment. Currently, tests of missile-loaded variants are underway – this is the stage of technical verification of the possibility of carrying large ammunition on the basis of such surface vehicles.
“This is an experimental model, created to find out whether it is possible to integrate heavy missile weapons on the Sea Baby base. In the test version, the platform is capable of firing simultaneous salvos of several rockets. Further adaptation for anti-ship and other heavy missiles is planned,” Hunter said, emphasizing that the ultimate goal is to neutralize the threat from the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
The general openly stated that the strategic goal is not just to limit the activities of the Russian fleet, but to completely destroy it. According to him, the demonstration featured prototypes that illustrate this concept.
Hunter also emphasized the security measures around the Sea Baby platforms. According to him, the SBU project team has created a system that makes it impossible for the enemy to seize and use Ukrainian developments — and there have been no recorded cases of such drones being lost to the enemy.
“These devices have been tested at long distances and have repeatedly returned with damage from debris or bullets, but have remained in working condition thanks to protective solutions from engineers and IT specialists,” he added.
In addition to the missile version, Hunter recalled other versions of the platform: one of the modifications was created to combat enemy surface drones – it was equipped with a gyro-stabilized 14.5 mm machine gun mount, which allows it to hit targets the size of an unmanned boat at a distance of over a kilometer.
The general also noted that Sea Baby can carry an explosive warhead in a ballast hull and has self-destruct mechanisms; in some cases, the platform can act as a guided strike vehicle against priority targets.
In conclusion, Hunter reported that during the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian drones struck enemy targets: according to him, the SBU was involved in damaging 11 Russian ships and two explosions of the Crimean bridge.
Recall that Russian footage taken during the strikes on Tuapse and Novorossiysk showed a naval drone with fiber-optic drones mounted in folding compartments along the hull . This is the first known case of such drones being launched from the sea.
