The Norwegian government presented the draft state budget: how much money is allocated for aid to Ukraine
The Norwegian government has presented a draft state budget for 2026, which includes 7.2 billion euros in aid to Ukraine.
This was reported by the country’s defense ministry.
Security and emergency preparedness are priorities. In the defense budget, they are accompanied by strengthening the Armed Forces in accordance with the long-term plan and support for Ukraine.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine is the biggest challenge to Norway’s security policy. The government proposes to continue emergency support to Ukraine from 2025 under the Nansen program,” the ministry said in a statement.
As noted, Norway has pledged 7.2 billion euros to help Ukraine, of which almost 6 billion euros are for defense needs.
This year, the government is proposing to increase the defense budget by 4.2 billion Norwegian kroner, bringing the total to 180 billion kroner.
In 2026, Norway will spend 3.4% of its gross domestic product (GDP) on defense.
“This is a good starting point for rapidly strengthening defense capabilities. With this budget, we are on track to achieve NATO’s new goal of spending 3.5 percent of gross domestic product on defense,” assured Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
Recall that before the start of the new heating season , the Norwegian government allocated almost $100 million to provide Ukraine with sufficient energy.
