The occupiers tortured Azov military medic Oleksandr Krokhmalyuk to death.

Azov military medic Alexander Krokhmalyuk was tortured to death in Russian captivity.

This was reported by the deputy commander of the 1st Corps of the Azov National Guard, Svyatoslav Palamar (Kalina).

Oleksandr Krokhmalyuk’s body was returned in September 2025 as part of the “1000 for 1000” repatriation. According to a forensic examination in Lviv on September 22, 2025, the cause of death was broken ribs and blunt chest trauma.

This is yet another indictment of the system of international humanitarian law, which is incapable of protecting the health and lives of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian captivity. The open and disregardful violation of the Geneva Convention, the torture and murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war, is a deliberate, barbaric policy of the Russian state. Systematic and documented, yet unpunished,” says Palamar.

Svyatoslav Palamar called on Ukrainian officials, human rights activists, and diplomats to speak out about cases of Ukrainian military personnel dying from torture “from the podiums of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, and in bilateral negotiations.”

“The return of Ukrainian and Azov prisoners of war is your duty and must be a priority in Ukraine’s international relations right now. Otherwise, the time will come when no one will be returned from captivity,” added the deputy commander of the 1st Corps of the Azov National Guard.

Oleksandr Krokhmalyuk joined Azov in 2016 as a military medic; at the time of his capture, he was the head of the medical service. According to Palamar, Krokhmalyuk was released from Azovstal and served time in Olenovka and the Taganrog prison. His last known place of detention was SIZO-2 in Kamyshin.

As a reminder, in the temporarily occupied city of Tokmak, Russian occupation “courts” sentenced two local residents, accusing them of alleged “treason” for transferring funds to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces through Ukrainian banking apps.

As reported, Olga Chernyavskaya, a resident of the temporarily occupied Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia region, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of espionage.
