The only Hungarian refinery is ready to abandon Russian oil

The only oil refinery in Hungary is ready to abandon Russian oil and increase the share of raw materials from other countries.

This is stated in the Bloomberg article.

Mol Nyrt., which uses Hungarian and Slovak refineries, has assured that it can increase purchases of non-Russian oil. In the event that the Druzhba oil pipeline, which runs through Ukraine, stops, the pipeline from Croatia will become an alternative for about 80% of supplies.

The corresponding statement was made before the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

However, Mol Nyrt.’s report emphasizes that using the Adriatic pipeline would entail higher technical risks and increase logistical costs.

“The statement marks a turning point after months of Orban and Mol’s claims that the landlocked country has no alternative to Moscow on energy issues,” Bloomberg notes.

Recall that the Donald Trump administration announced the first major package of financial restrictions aimed at the Russian economy . This move became part of Washington’s new strategy, the aim of which is to force the Kremlin to end the war against Ukraine.
