According to the head of state, the new initiatives are designed to honor the contribution of Ukraine’s defenders and individuals who support the country’s European course.
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the establishment of a new state award – the Order of Europe.
According to the President, Ukraine has already begun negotiations on future membership in the European Union and opened the first negotiation cluster. He emphasized that Ukrainian citizens, military and international partners are behind these achievements.
“Behind every such success of the state are our citizens, our soldiers, and all our people who protect the security and protect the future of all of Europe… And behind every such step are also our like-minded people from other countries, true friends and allies, tested by time and struggle, who have proven that Ukraine and Europe are one,” the president said.
Zelensky noted that the Order of Europe will be awarded for outstanding personal merits in supporting Ukraine’s strategic course towards gaining full membership in the European Union, a significant contribution to strengthening the stability of the state, protecting the security of Europe, and developing international cooperation and friendly relations between peoples.
“Ukraine absolutely deserves to have an order with this name. It has earned it with its round-the-clock struggle for the life of Europe. And all those who stood and stand shoulder to shoulder with us in this struggle will be awarded such a distinction – the Ukrainian Order of Europe,” the head of state emphasized.
The president also announced that he had submitted a bill on the Ukrainian National Pantheon to the Verkhovna Rada.
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian National Pantheon will become a nationwide place of remembrance, where the most outstanding Ukrainians who made a historical contribution to gaining and restoring independence, statehood, protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and developing the Ukrainian nation, army, culture, art, science, sports, literary language, civil society, and religion will be honored.
“The names of all the heroes who fought for Ukraine in different centuries and eras, who inspired Ukraine, will be combined and forever inscribed in our history with a capital letter, with great respect and attention from the state,” the president said.
He also emphasized that no one will determine for Ukraine how to live, what language to speak, and which heroes to honor.
The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the installation of a monument to Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the center of Kyiv . The monument is planned to be placed on Shevchenko Boulevard, where a monument to Vladimir Lenin was toppled in 2013 during the Revolution of Dignity.
