The OSCE stated that illegal sanctions against Poroshenko are inadmissible – Vice-President of the OSCE PA Committee Artur Gerasimov

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted a Declaration in which, just like in the European Parliament resolution, it clearly pointed out to the Ukrainian authorities the inadmissibility of applying illegal sanctions against opposition leader Petro Poroshenko.

This was announced by Artur Gerasimov, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, Vice-President of the OSCE PA Committee, on Facebook.

“The 33rd summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has ended. Its main result is the adoption of the Hague Declaration. A document where out of 216 main paragraphs, more than 60 are dedicated to Ukraine. It also involves the recognition of Russia’s crimes against the Ukrainian people, our state and culture,” he noted.

“The partners have recorded Ukraine’s role as a key defender of the eastern flank of the entire democratic world. This is an unconditional victory for our entire delegation, which represented Ukraine at this event, and proof that Russian aggression against Ukraine remains in the focus of all civilized countries of the world,” he emphasized.

“However, in addition to support in the war against the aggressor, the OSCE Hague Declaration (as well as the recent resolution of the European Parliament) contains a critically important signal for the current political leadership of Ukraine. International partners directly emphasize: Ukraine’s resilience and our victory depend not only on weapons, but also on the strength of our own democratic institutions, parliamentary pluralism, the rule of law and the independence of anti-corruption bodies,” the EU co-chair noted.

“Translating from diplomatic to human language, this is direct evidence that the West expects real reforms, the fight against corruption, and the strengthening of democracy from Zelensky’s team, not its curtailment. Our allies seek to see Ukraine as a European state, not a copy of the “small Russian regime” with a monopoly on power, the destruction of the opposition, pressure on the media, or the introduction of groundless illegal sanctions on the opposition leader,” Gerasimov explained.

“Our future membership in the European Union depends on fulfilling these requirements,” he emphasized.
