Ukraine and Russia will hold a new round of negotiations in Switzerland under the mediation of the United States, but the parties are not showing any willingness to compromise on key issues of ending the war.

This is reported by The New York Times.

According to the publication, this is the third trilateral meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the United States in the past three weeks. The two previous rounds were held in the United Arab Emirates. Kyiv and Moscow called the negotiations productive at the time, but the real result was limited to the exchange of prisoners of war.

Journalists note that the parties remain far from agreeing on two main issues – the future of Ukrainian-controlled territories in the east, which Russia claims, and the format of Western security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war.

The talks in Geneva will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. The US side is being represented by President Donald Trump’s special representative, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

The publication emphasizes that hostilities are ongoing, and by the end of the month the full-scale war will enter its fifth year.

Earlier, it was reported that US President Donald Trump increased pressure on Ukraine to “quickly” reach an agreement with Russia ahead of US-brokered talks in Geneva on Tuesday.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian delegation has left for Geneva to participate in negotiations to end the war with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. The meetings are scheduled for February 17-18.
