Pope Leo XIV called on the parties to the war in Ukraine to guarantee the safe transportation of grain across the Black Sea. He emphasized that the war’s consequences are felt even beyond Ukraine’s borders, especially in the world’s poorest countries.

Pope Leo XIVwrote about this on social media.

According to Leo XIV, a significant number of people in the poorest countries depend on grain imports, so supply disruptions exacerbate humanitarian problems.

“The war in exhausted Ukraine continues to cause suffering far beyond its borders, especially in the poorest countries, where many depend on grain imports. I sincerely urge the parties to the conflict to allow the safe transport of grain across the Black Sea. The daily bread of millions of people cannot be held hostage to war,” the pontiff wrote.
