New Army Reform: Big Promises, Big Questions

Apparently, the Mindichgate scandal shook Bankova quite a bit, and they decided to distract society with something. That’s why a text suddenly appeared with such a powerful headline… “President Zelensky on Army Reform.”
Well, let’s see what they promise.
“The financial support will increase. The minimum level is no less than 30 thousand hryvnias for rear positions. For combat positions, it will be many times more.”
✔ For combat positions, or combat positions? What do you mean by combat position? Because of the infantry on the front line, the calculation of the “Bogdan” self-propelled guns ten kilometers from the front line, or the calculation of the “HIMARS” twenty kilometers (or even more)—these are all combat positions. In times, how much is it? In two times, that’s also… in times.
“Contracts for infantrymen should provide for payments within the range of 250–400 thousand hryvnias.”
✔ Great! Really! And those who don’t want to sign contracts, they just skip these payments, right?
“The contract system will be strengthened and expanded. This should ensure the implementation of clear terms of service.”
✔ Again, a question for the mobilized, that is, those who have not yet signed and do not want to sign a contract. What will their terms of service be? Are we talking exclusively about contract soldiers and the others… and the hell with them!
“It is planned to begin the phased release from service of those who were mobilized earlier starting in 2026.”
✔ How? And the word “planned” does not mean “will begin,” let alone “will be carried out.” Moreover, if a person who was mobilized in 2022 signs a contract now, does this no longer apply to him? And if he does not sign, does he benefit from a significant increase in payments and clear terms of service (as discussed above)?
“Key details will be agreed in May. The reform will start in June.”
✔ Why then did they throw in raw text made up of common phrases?
On the eve, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will start an army reform, which should change approaches to the financial support of the military, the system of contracts, and the organization of service. The first changes are expected in June. According to the head of state, the key areas of the reform have already been agreed upon between the military command and the government.
