From Yermak to the President: Who Holds the Keys to Power

Ukraine is set to welcome a new foreign minister, potentially alongside nominees for the justice and energy portfolios, with parliamentary approval possibly coming as early as next week.

The surname is, of course, somewhat “Polishly secret” — Serhiy Kyslytsia. The current minister, Sibiha, intends to serve as an ambassador in a neighbouring country, such as Ukraine. This is no longer a secret either, as the agreement with Poland has been issued (although I am unsure whether it has been sent).

Well, to avoid repeating myself, I’ll mention one more nuance that could spark numerous conspiracy theories. The Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S., Olga Stefanishyna, has not yet presented her credentials. She was supposed to do so a month ago, but…

As a result, she has not yet assumed full authority in her position. Against this background, rumours have circulated that a new candidate might be sent to the U.S. However, they are not yet ready to replace Stefanishyna in the President’s Office.

There are also interesting twists in the story of the President’s Office — a possible change in the structure of the Office itself. This could evolve into the “President’s Office,” where the model of the “Yermak Collective” would be presented to the public (which might not be so bad — it could provide more alternative sources of information).

In the meantime, as I understand it, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych continues to coordinate part of the agenda with Andriy Borysovych. This is quite logical, given that too many processes were tied up in it.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is considering two candidates for the position of head of the President’s Office — Mykhailo Fedorov and Denys Shmyhal. According to him, the main challenge is that both already hold key positions, which would need to be filled by someone else if they are appointed.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing for personnel changes. Serhiy Kyslytsia, who currently serves as the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, may be appointed as Minister. According to People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the current Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiga, will take up the post of Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland.
