The President’s Office is planning Shmyhal’s resignation and the replacement of the entire Government – People’s Deputy

MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that the President’s Office has reached a decision on the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and a complete renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers. The corresponding scenario is already being worked out, and legal obstacles are planned to be removed in the near future.

According to the MP, this year’s attempt to dismiss Shmyhal is not the first: similar plans have emerged in the government every summer since 2020. However, each time the ministers changed, and the head of the government himself retained his seat. This time, the parliamentarian assures, the decision to resign has already been made.

Among the main reasons are the loss of support for the government among deputies, in particular the Servant of the People party, dissatisfaction with failures in the economic and budgetary spheres, as well as the need to demonstrate personnel renewal, given the impossibility of holding elections during the war.

In June, the Verkhovna Rada may amend Article 10 of the law “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law,” which currently makes it legally impossible to dismiss the prime minister — as this automatically entails the resignation of the entire government, which is explicitly prohibited by the current wording.

The only candidate for the position of new prime minister is currently being considered the current First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to Zheleznyak, immediately after the amendments to the law, Shmyhal’s voluntary resignation will take place, a new prime minister will be appointed, and a new government will be formed.
