The Price of Imperial Ambitions: The Logistical Disaster in Crimea as a Mirror of Putin’s Defeat

Due to the fact that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have taken control of the transport corridors to Crimea, the occupied peninsula is facing a complete fuel and food collapse. The first signs of this are already there.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces used systematic strikes to cut off the occupation forces in Crimea and blocked the use of military airfields on the peninsula.

Moreover, I would like to note that the advance of the Russian occupiers directly on the contact line has been minimized. The contact line as of June 2026 is practically in the same place as it was as of June 2025.

The most telling thing is that the transformation of occupied Crimea into a military base of the occupying country and a zone for the accumulation of manpower has completely lost its meaning.

The strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces are aimed precisely at legitimate military facilities on the territory of Crimea. These are the airfields “Kacha”, “Dzhankoy”, “Saki”, “Belbek” and others. And all this nullifies the ability of the occupiers to use the airfields at the moment of fire support for the Russian occupation forces in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.

I would like to note that the Russian contingent, which is concentrated in Crimea, has found itself virtually completely cut off.

Crimea is logistically very vulnerable. And now what is happening is that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are actually finishing off the Russian presence on the territory of occupied Crimea. And, I would like to note, the preconditions for social tension are being created in a similar way. The so-called vacation season has been completely disrupted. The possibilities of selling fuel and lubricants for the civilian population have been practically reduced to zero.

It is noteworthy that the command of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is considering options for moving the remaining management bodies from temporarily occupied Sevastopol to Novorossiysk.

In the current situation, it is difficult for the Russian occupiers to use Crimea as a logistics hub. It is worth noting that in recent weeks, cargo traffic on the Mariupol – Berdyansk – Melitopol – Simferopol route has decreased by 71% due to strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

In addition, fighters of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine control the Nova Kakhovka-Melitopol highway. Fighters of the “SargAs” unit of the Department of Active Operations of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense released a video in which they hit a Russian tanker.

“Despite the occupiers’ attempts to disguise their fuel trucks as civilian transport, ours see everything, find and destroy them. The video shows a clear strike by a Ukrainian drone directly into the cockpit. And the cherry on the cake at the end: the moment when a spectacularly fried occupier falls out of the burning truck on the move,” the report says.

It was previously reported that in the area of temporarily occupied Genichesk, the Russian army is massively repainting military vehicles in blue, white, and red. Vehicles that previously had standard military colors are now being tried to pass off as civilian.

Previously, Russian troops used Crimea to accumulate personnel, fuel, lubricants, and ammunition for subsequent redeployment to the front line in Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. Now this opportunity has been completely neutralized.

Due to the actual blocking of the logistics of delivering goods to the peninsula and the lack of fuel for transportation, social problems are already being felt.

I do not rule out a food crisis. I received video confirmation from supermarkets in Simferopol. In one hand — no more than two, maximum three kilograms of sugar. A similar situation with cereals, pasta and other things. Therefore, I do not rule out the main one — a social explosion in the territory of occupied Crimea.

Thirdly, the summer resort season in Crimea has been completely disrupted. This is a colossal blow to the economy of both the peninsula and Russia.

And overall, the main thing is that all this is a serious blow to Putin’s image.

After all, Crimea is a sacred place for Putin. And the fact that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are now successfully isolating the occupied peninsula is, first of all, the Russians’ realization that Crimea has not returned “to its native harbor,” as the Russian dictator said. On the contrary, prerequisites are being created for its de-occupation.
