The Prosecutor General’s Office is preparing a petition to the court to order 24-hour house arrest for former Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov. He is suspected of official negligence, which, according to investigators, led to the deaths of people during the severe storm on September 30.

Hromadske reports this.

A hearing on the measure of restraint will take place on October 31 in the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv.

According to police, nine people, including a family with a child, died as a result of heavy rains and flooding in the city. Law enforcement officials note that Odesa’s drainage system was unprepared for the disaster.

In addition to Trukhanov, two of his deputies, officials from city council departments, and the heads of a utility company’s structural division have also been charged. All face up to eight years in prison.

Trukhanov himself called the suspicion “unexpected” and assured that city authorities “worked minute by minute” and warned the population of the danger.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree revoking the Ukrainian citizenship of Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

Earlier , the Presidential Commission decided to strip Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov of his Ukrainian citizenship . Upon the president’s signature, his powers will automatically cease, and City Council Secretary Ihor Koval will assume his duties as acting mayor.

Incidentally, in September 2024, blogger and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko reported that Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov held Russian citizenship. Trukhanov himself subsequently responded to the information about his alleged Russian citizenship.
