On Wednesday, June 10, the Verkhovna Rada supported draft law No. 15224 on amendments to the state budget for 2026. The document provides for a significant increase in funding for the security and defense sector.

This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada and Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

242 MPs voted for the relevant decision. The main part of the additional funds will come from financial support from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan program.

After the adoption of the changes, the total amount of spending on security and defense will increase to a record 4.4 trillion UAH.

“After the changes, total spending on the security and defense sector will amount to UAH 4.4 trillion,” said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, UAH 2.3 trillion is planned to be allocated for the purchase of weapons and military equipment, and over UAH 1.45 trillion for payments to Ukrainian military personnel.

“The additional resource was made possible thanks to financial support from the European Union and other international assistance programs,” the head of government noted.

Separately, the document provides for additional expenditures from the reserve fund. In particular, over UAH 559 million is planned to be allocated to support the energy industry.

The Cabinet of Ministers emphasizes that financing additional needs, including financial support for the military, will be carried out mainly through the redistribution of internal resources of the Ministry of Defense.
