The Verkhovna Rada removed from consideration this week draft law No. 10242, which provides for increased responsibility for the dissemination of information from state registers.

This was reported by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram.

According to him, the decision was made after negotiations with the first deputy head of the Servant of the People faction, Andriy Motovylovets, and the leadership of the parliament.

“Bill No. 10242 has been withdrawn from consideration both tomorrow and this week,” Zheleznyak wrote.

Why the bill has drawn criticism

Bill No. 10242 provides for increased criminal liability for the unauthorized dissemination of information from state registers.

Representatives of the media community warn that certain provisions of the document may create risks for journalistic investigations, the protection of sources of information, and whistleblowers of corruption.

As a reminder, on October 27, it became known about plans to reconsider draft law No. 10242 in the Verkhovna Rada . The journalistic community urged deputies not to support the document without proper guarantees for the protection of the work of the media.
