People’s Deputy Oksana Savchuk proposes to establish a public holiday in Ukraine – the Day of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, which will be celebrated every year on November 30.
This is stated on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
“In the conditions of a full-scale war for the independence and identity of the Ukrainian people, the issue of restoring historical memory and strengthening the spiritual foundations of statehood is gaining strategic importance,” the explanatory note says.
According to her, the personality of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called helps to understand the place of Ukraine in European Christian civilization.
In addition, it emphasizes civilizational choice and apostolic succession; spiritual consolidation; and the restoration of historical justice.
Savchuk is convinced that establishing the Day of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called as a public holiday will contribute to the popularization of knowledge about the ancient history of Ukraine and its Christian roots, support national traditions and customs, and honor the historical role of the apostle in state-building and spiritual processes.
