On Tuesday, October 21, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Tetyana Berezhna to the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy – Minister of Culture of Ukraine.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

266 people’s deputies voted for the relevant decision.

According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Berezhna has extensive experience in government, international projects, and cultural diplomacy, and Ukraine needs someone who can turn visions into practical results.

She added that the decision to appoint Berezhna as Minister of Culture “is based on the clear belief that in times of war, culture cannot be a secondary issue.”

“As Deputy Minister of Economy, she implemented large-scale programs in the field of supporting Ukrainian manufacturers, employment, education, human capital development in Ukraine, and major cultural projects at the global level. In particular, the Ukrainian pavilion at Expo 2025 in Japan. As a minister, she has the opportunity to systematically develop cultural policy at the national level,” Svyrydenko explained.

Instead, Berezhna identified several priorities in her work as minister. In particular, it concerns attracting resources to the sphere of culture, preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage, and the autonomy and sustainability of cultural institutions.

“Today, our team is working to ensure that our children grow up in Ukraine, speak Ukrainian, go to Ukrainian museums, listen to and get to know Ukrainian performers, and read Ukrainian books from Ukrainian publishers before going to bed. We are working to realize the moment when Ukrainian culture will not have to prove anything and fight for its existence,” the official summarized.

As a reminder, in July, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Tetyana Berezhna as the acting head of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
