The Rada voted in the first reading for the new Civil Code of Ukraine: details

On April 28, the Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading the draft law on the new Civil Code of Ukraine No. 15150. 254 people’s deputies voted for the corresponding decision.

This became known during the broadcast of the parliament session.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, who is one of the authors of the bill, stated that the document will be seriously finalized before the second reading.

According to him, the deputies will make many amendments to take into account the comments and criticism.

The new Civil Code is intended to completely update the rules of private law in Ukraine. These include rules that regulate property, inheritance, contracts, family relations, and the protection of personal rights.

The document is created on the basis of the current Civil Code, the Family Code, and the law on private international law.

The new code will consist of nine books and should become more understandable, modern, and logically coherent.

Among the main changes are the possibility of inheriting digital assets, the right to reparations, new rules on civil liability, and new types of property rights.

It is also proposed to officially include national customs, customs of national minorities, and local acts of legal entities as sources of law.

Separately, the document provided for the possibility of leaving a will regarding reproductive biological material.

Another innovation is a separate book on the publicity of civil rights. It will regulate the registration of rights, encumbrances, and legal facts.

The new code is expected to help make private law more modern, understandable, and adapted to new economic and technological realities.

The current Civil Code of Ukraine was adopted back in 2003 and has been amended several times since then. However, the issue of a complete update of civil legislation has been discussed for several years.
