The range of 4,000 kilometers caused concern among allies: Iran launched a missile strike on a US base in the Indian Ocean

Iran launched a missile strike on the US-British military base of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Although there were no hits, the range of the missiles, which covered about 4,000 km, caused concern among US allies.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal .

According to US officials, Iran launched two medium-range ballistic missiles. One of them malfunctioned in flight, and the other was intercepted by a US warship using an SM-3 interceptor missile.

Journalists note that this was Iran’s first combat use of medium-range ballistic missiles.

The Diego Garcia base is located about 4,000 km from Iran . The US bases bombers, nuclear submarines and guided missile destroyers there under agreements with the UK.

The missile strike was carried out after the UK government allowed the US to use its bases to strike Iranian missile sites that threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his reluctance to quickly provide access to British military bases.

“This could change the balance of power in the US and Israeli military operation against Iran,” US officials said.

Recall that Iran carried out a drone attack on a French military base in Makhmur, Iraq, on Thursday, March 12.

Earlier, Iran launched ballistic missiles at the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan , which hosts German troops. The base also hosts US troops.
