The Russian auto industry is collapsing: large factories are switching to a 4-day work week

Major Russian automakers are massively switching to a 4-day work week due to the general decline of the industry.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Likinsky Bus Plant (LIAZ – ed.) announced a reduction in the working week the day before. This decision was caused by a 60% drop in bus sales in the Russian Federation.
“Earlier, one of the largest truck manufacturers, KAMAZ, and the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ – ed.), announced the transition to a 4-day work week. Starting in September, the largest passenger car manufacturer, AvtoVAZ, plans to shorten the work week,” the Central Labor Relations Board noted.
It is noted that the collapse of the automobile market in the Russian Federation is a direct consequence of the war, sanctions, and deepening crises in the Russian economy.
Although Russian propaganda is trying to convince Russians that the auto industry in Russia is recovering, in reality the war with Ukraine is killing non-military production.
It was previously reported that business activity in Russia’s industrial sector fell in July 2025 to its lowest level since March 2022 .
As reported, up to 20% of car dealerships in Russia may close by the end of the year.
In addition, Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ has suspended production from July 29 to August 11 inclusive . The official reason is “corporate vacation,” but in reality the decision is related to a critical situation on the market: the company’s warehouses are overflowing with unsold cars.
