The Russian plane was conducting a reconnaissance mission in international space: Poland scrambled its fighter jets

The day before, on October 28, Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian plane in the airspace over the Baltic Sea.

This was reported by the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces.

“A pair of MiG-29 fighters of the Polish Air Force successfully intercepted, visually identified and escorted a Russian Federation aircraft from the area of responsibility,” the message says.

As noted, the Russian Il-20 was performing a reconnaissance mission in international airspace without a submitted flight plan and with its transponder turned off.

At the same time, the department emphasized that the Russian plane did not violate Polish airspace.

The command noted that the Polish Armed Forces are in a state of constant readiness and will be able to respond to threats at any time.

Estonia previously stated that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace and remained there for 12 minutes.

As a reminder, on the evening of September 25 , five Russian aircraft were spotted over the Baltic Sea . NATO urgently scrambled its fighter jets for protection.

By the way, on Sunday, September 21, NATO scrambled two German fighter jets to intercept a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.
