The Russians again tried to break through to Kupyansk through gas pipes: what is known about the fighting in the city

The commander of the 429th separate Achilles unmanned systems regiment, Major Yuriy Fedorenko, reported that fierce fighting is ongoing in Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, in particular on the right bank of the city, where Ukrainian forces are knocking out saboteurs who were trying to penetrate the city through gas pipes.

He spoke about this on the “Espresso” program.

According to Fedorenko, the enemy has not made any advances on the left bank of Kupyansk. Russian troops are trying to infiltrate between the battle formations and penetrate the rear areas, but Ukrainian units are systematically detecting and destroying these sabotage groups.

However, the situation on the right bank of the city remains difficult. Street battles are ongoing there with sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG), which used an atypical method of penetration – advancing through gas pipes. However, as Fedorenko emphasized, Ukrainian forces managed to stop further penetration of the enemy by this route.

Separately, the commander noted that the Ukrainian military managed to re-damage the gas pipeline that the saboteurs were using for infiltration. This forced the enemy to return to a riskier logistics strategy — crossing the Oskil River to replenish their forces.

Fedorenko stressed that there is currently no reason to claim that regular Russian troops have taken control of any area of Kupyansk. However, the level of saturation with sabotage groups in the city remains high, and Ukrainian forces continue to systematically neutralize threats.

By the way, on September 17, Russian occupation troops made a partial advance in the Kupyansk area of the Kharkiv region and near Novoivanivka in the Zaporizhia direction.
