The Russians want to use the bottom of the Kakhovka reservoir for advancement: where do the occupiers plan to reach?

At the end of 2025, Russian occupation forces made attempts to advance along the bottom of the Kakhovka Reservoir and reach Malokaterynivka in the Zaporizhia region.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces Vladyslav Voloshyn, Suspilne reports .

“Malokaterynivka is located on the shore of the former Kakhovka reservoir. The occupier tried to infiltrate along the bottom of the former Kakhovka reservoir and reach Malokaterynivka, but these groups were discovered and destroyed,” he explained.

According to Voloshyn, the occupiers are not giving up their attempts and the Ukrainian military does not rule out that they will try to infiltrate.

The spokesman stressed that the situation in Malokaterynivka remains under control despite shelling using various types of weapons.

“This settlement is located near the line of combat contact, so the occupier is constantly carrying out shelling and drone strikes, and the work of powerful artillery was recorded. The main buildings there are not so non-capital, so the Russian army expects that it will be able to quickly approach this settlement and will continue to conduct, say, its assault operations there,” Voloshin noted.

He added that fighting is currently taking place near the settlements of Plavni and Prymorske.

As a reminder, the situation on the front in the Zaporizhia region has worsened , as Russian troops have concentrated on two areas – in the areas of Hulyaipol and Kamiansky.
