The SBU detained a Russian agent who was plotting a terrorist attack against military and police in Khmelnytskyi.
Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian intelligence agent in Khmelnytskyi who was preparing an explosion at a gathering point of Ukrainian military and police.
The SBU reported this.
To carry out the terrorist attack, the perpetrator constructed a homemade bomb following instructions from a Russian handler. The plan was for the perpetrator to anonymously call the police after the first stage of the operation, then remotely detonate the explosives just as law enforcement arrived. This was intended to increase the number of casualties among the Defense Forces and law enforcement agencies.
SBU officers uncovered the enemy’s plans in advance and detained the suspect red-handed during reconnaissance of the area.
The investigation revealed that a local drug addict had been detained; he had been recruited by the FSB through Telegram channels while he was looking for money. Before his arrest, he had managed to mark the coordinates of the objects on Google Maps, photograph them, and prepare a hiding place for the bomb.
During the search, they seized ready-to-use explosives and a phone that he had in the act with the occupiers.
The detainee is currently under suspicion of treason committed under martial law. The court has ordered his pretrial detention without bail.
For his crime, the man faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property. The Security Service once again reminds citizens of the need to be vigilant and report suspicious individuals or offers from enemy intelligence agencies.
It was previously reported that the SBU and National Police prevented a series of contract killings in Kyiv and the surrounding region, which were being plotted by Russian agents.
