The SBU has revealed details of the murder of Andriy Parubiy.
The Security Service of Ukraine has completed its investigation into the high-profile murder plot against Andriy Parubiy . According to investigators, the crime was planned for approximately a year, and the perpetrator was a 53-year-old Lviv resident recruited by Russian intelligence services.
According to Andriy Shvets, head of the SBU’s Main Investigative Department, the man had no prior criminal or military experience and worked as an equipment repairman. He came into contact with Russian intelligence agents while searching for his son, who had gone missing at the front. Investigators believe he was recruited through blackmail and the promise of help finding the child.
Over the course of a year, the suspect conducted reconnaissance, posed as a courier, rented a garage for cover, and used a car registered to someone else. He obtained the weapon—a Makarov pistol—from a pre-prepared stash. Funding was provided through cryptocurrency.
Law enforcement identified the suspect through analysis of surveillance video, as well as details of his equipment and travel routes. He was detained in the Khmelnytskyi region while attempting to escape to Russia.
The SBU also noted that it had found no connection between this case and the murder of Irina Farion . The accused is currently hoping for a prisoner exchange, but the decision will be made based on the gravity of the crime and the position of the victim’s family.
