The SBU has uncovered a new network of Russian agents who helped register Starlink for the occupiers.
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained eight more Russian agents who, on orders from Russian intelligence agencies, organized the illegal registration of Starlink satellite terminals for the needs of the occupation forces.
The SBU press service reported this.
According to investigators, the suspects were residents of various regions of Ukraine, aged 18 to 44. According to the SBU, they were recruited through Telegram channels offering “easy money.”
In the Rivne region, two mobilized soldiers were detained after leaving their unit without permission and subsequently agreeing to collaborate with the enemy. After being recruited, they registered Starlink in their own names and transferred access to their Russian handlers. Subsequently, on instructions from Russian intelligence agencies, they recruited others, using the passport details of at least 14 acquaintances.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two suspects with previous convictions for theft and robbery were exposed. They also registered the terminals in their own names and transferred the data to the Russian authorities, after which they recruited 14 more people to join the illegal registration scheme.
An 18-year-old resident of Lutsk was arrested in Volyn for registering Starlink in his own name and handing over access to Russia. He then recruited seven other acquaintances to activate satellite systems for the Russian military.
All those detained were reported as suspects under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular, treason, aiding an aggressor state, and desertion.
If found guilty, they face prison sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As a reminder, counterintelligence and SBU cyber specialists detained two Ukrainian citizens who agreed to register Starlink for the Russian occupiers . They face life imprisonment.
As reported, Russian Rassvet satellites are already capable of creating an alternative communications channel over Ukraine for the needs of the Russian army.
